Haynie Hall

Haynie Hall, is a residence hall located in West Campus at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. It can be found in West Campus which is adjacent to Illinois State's Redbird Arena and Handcock Stadium on Delaine Drive. Haynie hall is apart of a trio of residence halls commonly known to the students as Tri-Towers. Haynie is linked underground to two other residence halls by the name of Wilkins and Wright Hall. Haynie hall opened in September 1965 and was named in the honor of Martha D.L. Haynie, a professor well known for her work around campus. Recently, Haynie hall was renovated in 2006. This allowed for more room for students. Different types of suites were added to house students. Haynie hall offers a lot of activities for students. The basement provides study areas along with recreation. The residence hall is not always available to students. Students must vacate the premises upon official University vacation; however, when the residence hall is available to students there is security. Students must have their ID and keys with them at all times. A bus service stops right outside of Haynie hall to take students to their desired locations.

History

The residence hall opened in September of 1965 and was recently renovated in 2007. It housed 420 women. Haynie Hall was named after a professor by the name of Martha D.L. Haynie. Martha D.L. Haynie had many notable talents that she was recognized for. She was the first female professor at Illinois State Normal University(ISNU). Not only was she a professor, she also worked as a counselor of women from 1866-1886. To add to her list of accomplishments, she worked as an principal at a local high school by the name of University High School where she taught English and French.

Renovations

Haynie hall was originally opened in September of 1965. Initially, it housed only 420 women, but the renovations allowed more room for more students. Haynie reopened on August 17,2006 and added two suites on each floor. There are two different types of suites by the name of Suite A and Suite B. Suite A consists of two double-occupancy rooms, a bathroom, and a living area. Suite B consists of three double-occupancy rooms, two bathrooms, and a living area.

Room Layout

Haynie hall accommodates singles, doubles, as well as suites. Every room comes with a bed, closet, desk, chair, and a dresser. It is air conditioned through mid-September and provides heat as well. Students may bring their own personal refrigerators as long as it doesn't exceed 4.3 cubic feet and 1.5 running amps. Microwaves or other appliances are not permitted in the dorm room. If students wish to microwave their food, one is provided on every floor for usage.

Amentities

Haynie hall provides a basement to students where school work can be completed in quiet areas or it can be used for fun. Couches and a television is located in the lower level area where students can watch movies as a collective unit or watch their favorite television shows. In addition, a Foosball and a Ping Pong table is available. Haynie hall is the only residence hall that is connected to the dining hall through the first floor. Outside amenities include three basketball courts, a volleyball area, softball, and soccer. Marketplace at Linkins is located in West Campus as well.

Study Places

Students are allowed to study in quiet rooms free of distractions to focus on their school work. These rooms are located in the basement. They are Linkins 102, Linkins 103A, and Linkins 103B. These rooms are normally locked and must be opened by the students resident assistant (RA). Students may also take advantage of the lounges available on every floor to have quiet time to complete their work or any other projects that may be suitable.

Vacation Operation

During official University vacation, Haynie hall is closed and students must evacuate; however, if students do wish to stay on campus, the student will have to reside in the Hewett and Manchester residence hall for a fee.

Security

Haynie Hall is always locked from the outside. A student cannot enter the building unless they have a university ID. A student must swipe their card to unlock the doors and enter the residence hall. The ID will only work if the student lives in Haynie. After twelve o' clock, students must check in at the front desk and have their key checked to ensure that they do, in fact, live in Haynie hall.

Traveling Service

Haynie hall is located in West Campus,which is farthest from the quad and many of the students classes; however, Illinois State University provides a bus service Monday through Friday that arrives directly in front of the residence hall every ten minutes to take students to class. Also, not only does the bus service take the students to campus, it provides transportation to the local stores. With a students Illinois State ID, the bus ride is free of charge. Students equally have the option to walk to class safely by using the underpass.
