Dhevaakar (born in November 3rd, 1957) in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. He is an actor, producer and director. He became the first Malaysian Actor in an Oscar Award and Golden Globe Award winning movie "Indochine"(1993)'in the 65th Academy awards. His latest film is "Sandiya".

Early life

Dhevaakar's father; E. P. Kanesan worked in Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation as a peon. His mother; Velliammah was a house wife and his siblings; E. P. K. Kanagasabai and Meenatchi.

He studied at the Methodist Boys Primary and Secondary school, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. At his 11 years old, he actives in 15 types of sports and the favorites are the badminton, athletic, and football. He used to be a member in 'Jets Athletic Club'. His coaches for athletic are Tirupathi and Sivaprakasam while for the football, M. Chandran with VOC Football Club. His classmate Kanagaraja former Selangor state footballer and running partners are M. Raju and B. Raj Kumar former national athletes.

Dhevaakar is a movie lover. He watches all movies especially every numbers of M. G. Ramachandran or M. G, R movies. He believes that M. G. R is the greatest icon in the world film industry. Dhevaakar wants to follow the footsteps and also wants to be like M. G. R. He made his life with the a meaningful journey that is to educated the people and potrait the moral values through films like how M. G. R. did.

Dhevaakar Suppiah Started of his career profile as an Apprentice in SAR Films (A Local Film Distribution Company) in 1973 based in the heart of the city Kuala Lumpur, Masjid India (Malayan Mansion) it was once called as Kodambakam of Malaysia,about 28-30 film distribution companies were based here.Later he moved to Columbia Films when the later took over SAR films, with the guidance of Bennedict Thomas who have inspired him throughout his career. His love affair with film started in 1986 when he joined KineGraphic production house after giving up his job as a clerk with the bank

Acting

Then there were sevaral minor roles in other TV dramas.He wanted to improve his acting career so he joined the film institute in madras (Amanchakarai) in 1990 taking up acting and directing courses,while studying he made his Indian film debut in Puthu Puthu Ragangal produced by Deivaanai movies starring Sithara, Charan Raj, Anand Babu, Rajesh. Music By S.A.Rajkumar and directed by V.Aadhavan which was screened in cinemas in India and Malaysia.His short practical courses with K.Balachander's Kavithalaya Production in Sigaram starring S.P.Balasubramaniam, Radha, Rekha, Anand Babu, Ramya Krishnan. Music: S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. Production: Kavithalaya Films. Director: Ananthu, for those who haven't heard of him, he was the unsung hero of several successes, the behind-the-scenes mastermind who molded and nourished several personalities (eg: kamal and K Balachander), someone who cherished his anonymity, ironically in a world where everyone wants a share of the limelight. Dhevaakar Suppiah returned home and did several TV dramas before his big break as an international star with Indochine in 1991. He rose in to fame when his telemovie telecast by RTM featuring Dhevaakar in Muniandy was well received by the Malaysian Audience. Dhevaakar was also in the lead role in Noorandu Kanavu, Pallavi, Cikgu, Puthu Mappilai, Shanthini and some other dramas which made him the stardom in Malaysia. Dhevaakar was a prominent member in the production team which produced Nadasuara a weekly magazine program produced for RTM from 1991-2003.the only Tamil TV program telecast in Malaysia. From 2003-2012 he managed Pro Majestic Sdn Bhd as Managing Director a company owned by Datuk Chandrasekar Suppiah.It was the first company in Malaysia to collaborate with Jaya TV India to produced TV programs for Malaysia and India. Dhevaakar have walked every path in the cinema-production profession has gained insight knowledge, experience and exposure. Sticking on the profession working with leading local and international production companies, Dhevaakar has gain tremendous momentum over the years as a production strategist and a solution provider. Today walks confidence as a well-known personality in the production industry that has dominate a strong testimony and reputation.He is a member in Seniman, Fdam, Profima, FTII, CCIG and Film Guild of South India, A man with many talents and a heart that cares and shares is the man who aims high to revolutionize the business of production towards greater heights.

He completed a 6 months short course (CIA) at The International Film Institute of India (Amanchakarai) Tamilnadu India. Dhevaakar Suppiah is the founder member and the president of Malaysian Indian Film and Workers Association MIFTWA.

MIFTWA

MIFTWA is the abbreviation of Malaysian Indian Film and Television Worker’s Association. It was founded in 1997 as an informal grouping of Indian Film and Television Artistes and Technicians’ Association. Later, it was officially registered under Session 7 Organization Act 1966 on the 24th August 2011. MIFTWA represents as a Dialogue Partner with Government Agencies and other relevant authorities on issues and projects relating to the Malaysian Indian Film and Television industry. MIFTWA has ventured into several non-profit activities which brings benefits to its registered members as well as non-registered members. MIFTWA has provided security and protection to its members which are within the industrial rights of its members.Various Skill Training workshop and Seminars have been conducted successfully by MITFWA where the participants consists of senior artistes and technicians, upcoming artistes and technicians and students as well as those who are interested in joining the Film and Television Industry. Research about film and television is seen as an important medium in translating cultural and social ideology of a society that affect ideas, values, cognitive and even audience’s behavior. Therefore, films and television should be given specific roles in preserve their culture and religion toward the civilization. As digital media technology evolves, the possibilities to learn various aspects of the film language (technical proficiency, aesthetic understanding and innovation within the professional field) continues to expand for new aspiring young generations of film and television makers. Fundamentals include learning how to operate video equipment and there are technical requirements to be gained such as camera operators, editing, lighting, sound, production management, make –up and post –production. MIFTWA has a meaningful vision for our younger generations for the challenges of the digital world in film and television production, as it is today. What defines this world most singularly, perhaps, is the absolute knowledge that it is world of change. Our Association’s core purpose aims at shaping young filmmakers who will be confident to take life’s challenges head on anywhere in the world.

Objectives

l Provide quality industrial trainings for local graduates, undergraduates, registered members and non-registered members who are interested in taking up a career in the Film and Television Industry. l Policies to improve on ideas and contents and enhance global competitiveness and transform our members into an economic power entrepreneur by the year 2020. l To Coordinate with FINAS, KDN, RTM in supervising on illegal foreign workers in local Film and Television Industry. l To supervise been exploited by illegal foreign inputs in the opportunities for a Better Tomorrow Policies provided to Malaysians in local Film and Television Industry by The Malaysian Governmental Bodies. l To coordinate with other relevant associations to upgrade the quality of performance in the local Film and Television Industry. l To prepare our younger generations for the challenges of the digital world in Film and Television Production... To Develop the Talents and Skills of our local Film and Television Industry members. l Provide protection to MIFTWA members on their rights as stated in the constitution of the association. l Ensure that MIFTWA members have an official agreement or contract with the respective producers or employers before they execute on any projects related to Film and Television. l Provide free workshops and short courses for the members of the association and non-members and monitored by supervised training towards personal and development of business in the creative industry, guide them to start up a carrier in The Film and TV production. l Undertake severe action on members who disobey the constitution of the association, law of the local Film and Television Industry, for their disciplinary, misbehavior during the term of projects.

Vision

To help maintain, promote, increase and expedite film and video production in Malaysia. To value add activities that include production and post-production, talents, production support and service, industry related all segments of the production industry. To promote industry excellence through our collective efforts and total group alliance. The alliance will work with and assist film and television companies, as well as, the various film and video production companies towards industry excellence.

Dhevaakar became the first Malaysian Actor in an Oscar Award and Golden Globe Award winning movie "Indochine"(1993)'in the 65th Academy awards.The film was selected for screening as part of the Cannes Classics section at the [[2016 Cannes Film Festival]. Dhevaakar Suppiah also featured in the Malaysian Movie [1]Kecil-Kecil Cili Api produced by RJ Film (Rosnani Jamil) and Directed by one of the magnificent Malay Film Director; [2]Jamil Sulong in 1995. . Ooivu his first TV film shot with 16 mm in 1987 produced by one of the magnificent Malay film Director and the Father of the Malaysian Cinema; Dato L. Krishnan[3]'s Gaya film. His early fame came as the first Tamil-an in the world to act in an Oscar Award winning movie “INDOCHINE[4]” (Best Foreign Movie 1992). Dhevaakar has tremendous experience working in various TV programs such as Magazines (Infotainment), Documentary, Sports Program , Musical, Talk Show, Travelogue, Cooking,Sit-Com, Election Video, Corporate Video and AD Movies. He is also responsible to introduce new artistes, Directors, Producers and Technicians who are household personality in the Malaysian Creative Industry Today. 

Dhevaakar has won awards by the Malaysian Tamil Artiste Association: Best Director, Best Producer 2007, Special Achievement Award 2008.
