I've been using Wikipedia since 2001, had an account for a few years and only recently have been brave enough to make a few edits as best I can. In the meantime I play the guitar, write books, design websites, study typography, and go camping.
And in retrospect I don't even know why I made this page. "Because It's There"[1] isn't really a qualifiable excuse. The main thing that bugs me is abusing Wikipedia as a means of marketing or driving traffic. Spam doesn't belong on a free encyclopedia meant to teach and inform. The reason for this page, then, I guess, is to practice Wikipedia markup so I can better and fluently (yet seldomly) edit existing articles and not mess stuff up.
If this page doesn't belong here, delete me. I won't be offended.
In the meantime, for all Wikipedia users, the Administrator Guidelines page has great tips for using this website proactively and productively. Principles that adhere to common sense and good manners are best suited for everyone.
Make Your Own Userbox
edit
It took me a while to figure out how to make one on my own, so here goes. Copy and paste this code onto your own page if you like:
| {{Userbox
|id = [[Image:Image-From-Wikipedia.jpg|70px|Alt Text]]
|info = This user makes his own [[Article Link|Link Text]].
|id-c = #000000
|info-c = #eeeeff
|border-c = #000000
|border-s = 1}}
- id is the Image location, image box width (not image width), and alternate text if the image doesn't load.
- info is the Blurb on the right hand side of the box
- id-c is the background color (in hex color code) for behind the image.
- info-c is the color of the text in the little blurb.
- border-c is the border color.
- border-s is the border size. Don't over do it or you lose room for the blurb.
