The game plot follows the story of Daniel, a young man who after inheriting his grandmother's house on the fictional village of Aspen Town, starts to find that the house forms part of his past in some form, and he must find out after a mysterious woman who knows Daniel tells him to find the connection of him and the house.
Stray Souls was announced in March 2023[1], and heavily advertised as a full-fledged psychological horror story that would heavily use Unreal Engine 5 to bring a realistic survival horror experience heavily influenced by Silent Hill games, with next-gen graphics, refined combat mechanics, and including Akira Yamaoka as one of the composers of the soundtrack for the game.
Stray Souls was released on October 25, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Android. Upon release, the game received mostly negative reviews from critics, who criticized it's graphics, poor voice acting, inconsistent performance, soundtrack, bad controls and a bland plot story.
It was also Jukai Studio' only game, and the final game to be published by Versus Evil, as both companies were shut down; Jukai cites poor sales and cyberbulling/threats as factors for the studio closure[2][3].
