Alexander Mignot
Half Venezuelan half French, Alexander Mignot was raised on the island of Margarita. He grew up surrounded by the ocean surfing every day. Following his greatest passion he started living on a boat[1] with Kaya, his most loyal four-legged companion. They travelled for 7 years hunting for waves across the seas of the world. When necessary he made a living by working in construction in the islands of the Caribbean. He would have never stopped sailing unless Nina del Mar hadn’t sunk leaving Alexander stripped from all possessions and no place to live. He then moved to Europe to discover his next adventure. After a year of exploring cities he decided to stay in Lisbon. He was starting to run out of resources when he was contacted by a collector from the art world who had been fascinated by a wall Alexander painted in one of his construction projects and he persuaded him to start painting. Paint and colour were always part of Alexander’s life but he first painted on a canvas and presented his work a year later, on the 20th of July 2017 when Alexander did his first solo show in Miami. Within the following 3 years seven more solo shows followed in Mexico, New York, Madrid, Paris,[2] St. Barths, Mykonos and back in Miami [3] all stemmed with great success as his work sold out fast and is now part of Blue Chip collections around the world. This year his work was showcased in Zonamaco in Mexico along with great artists like Gerhard Richter and Domingo Zapata and his work was showcased and sold in an Auction in MUSEO JUMEX (Mexico City).[4] Painting took over Alexander’s life. He has a studio in Lisbon where he lives and paints in the winter and one in Mykonos during the summer, but still travels where life takes him and draws his inspiration from his life experiences.[5]
