The Sunken Bell (German: Die versunkene Glocke) is an 1896 play by the German playwright Gerhart Hauptmann.[1] It explores the Romantic theme of the relationship between the creative artist and reality.[1] In contrast to Hauptmann's naturalistic dramas, The Sunken Bell adopts a more symbolist dramaturgical approach.[2] Productions of the play in English include one in New York in 1900 and another in London in 1907.[1]


Lonely People (German: Einsame Menschen), also translated as Lonely Lives, is an 1891 play by the German playwright Gerhart Hauptmann.[1] It dramatises the difficulties caused by incompatibility between partners in marriage.[1]
