This is a collection of examples of NRHP list-article formatting issues, collected to inform a possible discussion in an RFC, to address differences of opinion between some editors. Many are examples of what can be called "same name same county", where the exact same NRHP official name applies to more than one place listed in the same NRHP list-article (which are usually one list-article per county).
Previous discussion was archived at User talk:Doncram/Archive 14#(disambiguation displayed in listing names). There were also related comments at User talk:Nyttend/Archive 14#various NRHP list-article formatting issues and User talk:Nyttend/Archive 14#multiple reversions. The "same name same county" issue is currently opened for discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#same name same county.
List of items
edit- Town Line Boundary Marker (disambiguation). For this example, the twice-used use of the same name in the same NRHP list caused even the NRHP editor creating articles about all NRHP places in the county to be confused. Only one article was created, using infobox for the 410 High Street one, which i just renamed to a more specific disambiguation and made way for and created disambiguation. This relates to two places in National Register of Historic Places listings in Barnstable County, Massachusetts:
- Town Line Boundary Marker (410 High Street, Barnstable, Massachusetts), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Barnstable County, Massachusetts
- Town Line Boundary Marker (Great Hill Road, Barnstable, Massachusetts), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Barnstable County, Massachusetts
- Urban Rowhouse, regarding
- Urban Rowhouse (30-38 Pearl Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Cambridge, Massachusetts
- Urban Rowhouse (40-48 Pearl Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Cambridge, Massachusetts
- Urban Rowhouse (26-32 River Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Multiple occurences of same-name within Bergen County New Jersey NRHP list-article, including:
- Van Houten-Ackerman House (disambiguation), regarding
- Vanderbeck House (disambiguation), 2 of them
- Van Blarcom House (disambiguation), 2 of them
- Frederick Wortendyke House (disambiguation), 2 of them:
- Blauvelt House (disambiguation), 3 of them:
- Blauvelt House (Franklin Lakes, New Jersey), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Bergen County, New Jersey
- Blauvelt House (Harrington Park, New Jersey), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Bergen County, New Jersey
- Blauvelt House (Norwood, New Jersey), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Bergen County, New Jersey
- perhaps more pairs also in Bergen County list
- Bossier High School (disambiguation), about 2 quite different buildings, one International style, one classical
- Steam Engine Company No. 20
- Steam Engine Company No. 20 (1330 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Jefferson County, Kentucky, one of 17 Historic Firehouses of Louisville
- Steam Engine Company No. 20 (1735 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky), listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Jefferson County, Kentucky, one of 17 Historic Firehouses of Louisville
- And maybe also Steam Engine Company #4 is a pair, similar. Note the Historic Firehouses of Louisville does not actually list these, but is target of 17 redirects i think.
- Londershausen House (disambiguation). 2, both in Dayton, Ohio, given alternative names instead:
- Holbrook Bridge (disambiguation) may refer to a Luten Arch bridge from 1916 or a Warren pony truss bridge from 1928, which are:
- Little Nemaha River Bridge (disambiguation), two of them in Otoe County, Nebraska
- William Robinson House (disambiguation), the two in Beaver Utah out of 5 of that name:
- Two of same name in Warrensburg, Missouri:
- Lewis H. Mills House (disambiguation) dab of 2 in Portland, Oregon
- Huey P. Long House (disambiguation)
- Mediterranean Style House dab of 2 in Nogales County, Arizona
- Nishnabotna River Bridge (disambiguation)
- Smurthwaite House (disambiguation) may refer to:
- Valentine Soap Workers Cottage, same situation for two same-named places listed on the NRHP in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Article for just one was created previously, and both NRHP list-items were linked to it, one erroneously. Article has been revised to cover both. There may remain a display issue for what to show in the NRHP list-article.
(ADD MORE ABOVE) Note there may be more pairings given as examples in the previous discussions (see archive links above).

Also more that can be turned up by a program going through NRIS looking for same name in same county. In the program it should look for items with current NRHP listing status. I think that is code "LI". As opposed to finding instances where one place was mentioned with status DR and then later listed, or was listed and then later withdrawn, in which cases there is only one place involved. --doncram (talk) 15:41, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
