Ryan Alexander Dewar (born 17 December 1988) is a film director and filmmaker from Forfar, Scotland, best known for independent feature film "Time Teens: The Beginning".

Biography

Ryan Dewar started in filmmaking at the age of 15.[3] He attended Perth College UHI, graduating in 2008.[2]

Dewar's first professional full-length feature film was "A Journey To Etna",[4][5][6] a feature documentary following a charity team ascending Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna.

Dewar gained recognition after producing and directing the nominated and award winning Scottish Feature film, "Time Teens: The Beginning" in 2015, when it opened to audiences in Perth Playhouse Cinema.[7]

Time Teens

"Time Teens: The Beginning" saw Dewar filming, editing, designing, special effects, sound and various other roles within the creation of the movie, which was supported by the community of whom were joined by politicians and critics alike, at a gala premiere in February 2015 in the IMAX screen of Perth Playhouse Cinema.[8]

The script had originally been written as a TV Series by writer/actor Ian Grieve[7] around ten years earlier. When Dewar and Grieve met in Perth Theatre where Ian was resident director, they pursued his TV scripts as a short film. The short film soon turned into a full feature film with a plethora of Scottish cast coming on board and waivered their fees on the production to help out. The release date was put back as Dewar and Grieve appealed for assistance to get the project finished.[9][10]

Time Teens went on to win the San Francisco Film award and Accolade global Film Awards 2015, nominated for Best Feature and Best cinematography in [11] Fife Film Expo, and official selection for Euro Film Festival and North By Midwest Film Festival. Dewar gained a 6 page spread in issue 23 of Digital Filmmaker Magazine in early 2015 discussing his methods and success of the film. The film opened with generally positive reviews with an IMDB average rating of 7/10.

Big Red and The Wrong Man

After Time Teens, Dewar wrote and directed[12] "Big Red"[13] which featured Helen Mackay, Andy Gray − members of the Time Teens cast − and introducing Isaac McLean. The Film surrounded a mother and son at Christmas being interrupted by a surprise guest. Following this, writer Claire Nicol teamed up with Andy Gray and Dewar to produce another short film with well known Scottish actress and comedienne, Elaine C. Smith.[14]

Music Video

In 2010, Dewar was involved with filming and directing a music video for Scottish Band Yashin. The music video was broadcast on MTV2, Kerrang! and Scuzz, staying in the Top Ten for following weeks through viewer requests.[15]

In 2014, Dewar created a music video for "Streets of Loneliness", a work performed by country singer Janey Kirk and featuring Jerry Donahue.[16]

Theatre

In March 2016 he directed the theatrical production Neither God nor Angel, at Oran Mor, Glasgow.[17][18]
