First Task, Headings and subheadings
editYour first task is a simple one. However, I would like to see just how "wiki-literate" you are. What you need to do is put each uppercase letter as a heading, with each accented character as a subheading, and each lowercase letter as text within each heading/subheading. As an optional parameter, place an internal link to a page that starts with that letter. Any page will do.
Again, I know this is simple, but I need to know what you do and don't know.
Passed.
Second Task, Internal Links
editYou second task is to provide internal links to the articles I have given below. For the last article disguise it as something else using the "|" character. One of these will show up as a red link. Find out what is wrong with it and fix it. Optional, add links to each articles talk page.
Passed
Third Task, Images
editI want you to add four images, each with a caption, to this page. I want one plain image, one with a 3 pixel frame, one as a thumbnail, and one shrunk to 20 pixels. Use only free images, so we don't have admins and copyvio cops on our assess.
Passed. There is a way to make the frame wider, but everyone has been having trouble with it, and indeed, now that I need it, I can't find the how-to.
Policies
editLook up the policies relevant to:
Point of view1-This article is about Wikipedia's policy on writing articles without bias based on one's beliefs.
Conflict of Interest2-This article is about not editing an article to serve your own or a business's interests, but the interests of Wikipedia.
Original Research3-This article is about using reliable outside sources, not your own experiences, as resources for an article.
And Civility4-This article is about being nice!
Provide both an internal link, and an external link to each page so I know you read, at least most of, it.(That sentence looks weird, but is grammatically correct...Odd.)
Application of Knowledge
editAt the article for George Bush you see an edit summary like this "Removed Slanderous Information-L.Bush" and the userpage shows that this person claims to be Laura Bush, George Bush's husband. The edits themselves took out the enitre section on "Bushisms" (funny words Bush uses, like nucular) and added two sections, one referenced to a book Laura wrote herself, and the other unreferenced. The unreferenced section details how Bush is a very intteligent man, and is a good husband and father. The language of the section suggests that the editor thinks Bush is a good person. When asked about this, User L.Bush replied "How dare you slander my husband! You computer geeks don't know anything about him!".
What you do? What, if anything would you revert? Are there any reportable offenses?
I would report User L.Bush on Wikipedia:NPOV, Wikipedia:CoI, and Wikipedia:OR. Because she is related to Bush (supposedly), that's a conflict of interest, as she wants to make him look good. SHe can't reference a book she wrote herself, because that's original research. (If someone else referenced this book, that would be fine.) Finally, by writing about Bush in a positive light, she violates the neutral point of view that Wikipedia tries to maintain. The same would go for someone writing about him in a negative light. We are here to report facts, not to tell what our opinion is.
Sorry, I kinda went into debating mode there and I got a little worked up. ;)
A few Questions
- What about the fact that her book is real, and is published? Does that change anything as far as Original Research goes?
- What about the pesronal attack at the end?
Well, I guess the book can be used, I got confused for a minute there. But that doesn't mean the book is a good source, because it could be biased. The comment at the end falls under Wikipedia:Civility. She's not being very civil and she should be given a warning. If she continues to disrupt the article and insult other editors, she should be blocked.
Pass.
Referenceing
editProvide inline citations for this statement, and correct any information that can't be properly sourced. Also provide a References section below the statement. It should be fairly easy to find relevant info on google.
"The cheetah can run at speeds up to 60mph[1], and hunt a wide variety of animals, including guinea fowl and antelopes[2]."
Notes
editPass. Interesting. Your source supports 64mph while Monkey and Programmer found sources that say 70mph.
Vandalism and Welcoming
editThere are many tools wikipedians use to patrol vandalism, the most common of which is the Special:Newpages link. There are also some tools to be found that are much more powerful than the "Newpages". I found the one I currently use from User:Lupin. Your task is to find three pages relevant to vandalism, fighting vandalism, or the consequences of vandalism.
One
Two
Three
Passed this part of the task.
I'll accept those, though to be fair, 3RR and edit warring are not vandal specific.
When welcoming a new user many templates can be used. The most common is welcome. You can also use mine at User:Drew R. Smith/Welcome. Your task is to find and welcome three new users, and provide links to prove it.

Next Task
editI'm not sure why I haven't given this task yet, for porgrammer and monkey it was before vandalism. Probably forgot.
I think you are ready to creat your first article. Keep in mind all the relevant policies, especially notability and original research. You can choose any topic you want. I would suggest a plant or animal, however, as these automatically meet the notability requirements because they exist. For this task, it doesnt have to be anything fancy, you just have to create it.
I did it! 8
B-Class
editYou know most of the things needed to get by in wikipedia now. For your last task before you officially graduate, I would like you to work on getting your article up to a B-class. The criteria for a B-class Plant can be found at Wikipedia:Wikiproject Plants(Hmmm. I guess not. I don't know where to find it). When you think your article qualifies let me know and I'll take a look. You may also want to consider joining a wikiproject. As you may already know, I contribute at WP:EAR. Occasionally we get a particularly tough case, or a case perfect for teaching. I'm going to set up a page where my adoptees can attemt to tackle these problems, without having to worry about the repercussions of giving bad advice. If you choose to participate in this, your main focus should still be on getting your article to a B-class. Pass! Congratulations on Graduating from my Adoption Program. Any comments on addition/deletion of tasks would be great, this is my first time actually using a strict program like this.
