Early life and education

She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, which is on the shore of Lake Erie, to Louis and Laura Finke. Along with her brothers Richard and Donald, she was raised on Coronado Island, San Diego, California and Altadena, California. Her parents were of German ancestry and members of the First Lutheran Church in Pasadena, California where she went to elementary and high school.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Pasadena at the age of 12. She enrolled as a journalism major at Pasadena City College. She wrote a column for the college paper called City College Capers.

Personal life

She met her husband, Merrill (Mel) Clisby, on a blind date and he proposed to her in January 1958. They were married on August 3, 1958 and had two children, Cheryl Clisby and Gary Clisby. She was an avid tennis player with a wicked cross court, left-handed shot. iiiii
