The Gentz are an American Rock Band that began in 1979 as "The Parkside Gentz" Formed by Ricky Lance Lane, Guitar and Vocals and, Phillip Brina, Keyboards and Vocals. Their love of music from the 60's brought them together. Their first recording was "Just A Little Love" which got airplay on the "No Major Label Show" on WNEW FM in NY. Shortly thereafter, a few major labels became interested and, The Parkside Gentz began performing at Great Guildersleeves, Club 82 and Max's Kansas City in NY. It was the beginning of the burgeoning NY Punk Rock scene. Within a couple of months, Ricky and Phillip started re-evaluating the bands personnel.

Dee Dee Bache became the new Bass player and Bobby Savage became the new drummer in 1980 and they shortened their name to "The Gentz". While performing at CBGB's, Max's Kansas City, Hurrah's and other notable NY clubs, The Gentz saved money earned from performing live to record their first single, "Pushover" B/W "98.6". Local radio airplay attracted the interest Norman Schilt a producer who had just formed his own record label, "All Star Records". The first single released was by street singer Sando backed by The Gentz. The song was titled "For The Walrus" and it was played nationally on FM radio as a tribute to John Lennon. The Gentz recorded their first CD titled "The Gentz which has been re-released on the ItsAboutMusic Label[1]

The Gentz toured throughout the US and Canada through the 80's. Producer Norman Schilt hired The Gentz to be the back up band on a Bo Diddley CD. In the early 90's The Gentz signed with manager Tom Barrett who flew them to Detroit to record their "Rock City" CD. Legal battles ensued over ownership of the Rock City CD and subsequently, it was released privately by The Gentz and sold on consignment at small record stores throughout the US. The Gentz continued to perform throughout the 90's while Dee Dee took on acting roles. Dee was Woody Allen's Stardust Memories. Dee Dee also produced and directed the critically acclaimed short subject movie "The Doorman".

2005 was a breakthrough year for The Gentz. With new drummer Kent Carter The Gentz finally released their "Rock City CD [2]. The Gentz have achieved great success in digital downloads throughout Europe and Asia as well as in the US. In 2008 more than 100 college radio stations played The Gentz single "Hollywood Rose" from their Rock City CD. The newly recorded "Rising From The Ashes" was also released in 2008. The Gentz continue to perform and record. They will release their fourth CD in 2009.

It seems that Napster is using The Gentz song "Rock-It" to promote their new UK Download service. http://music.napster.co.uk/uk/song-16752418/The+Gentz/Rock+City/Rock-It
