Jules Maidoff is an American artist. He was born in 1933, New York City. Since 1973 he lives and works in Tuscany, between Florence and Pian di Sco', near Arezzo.
Biography
editJules Maidoff was born in New York City, in 1933. He grew up in the bronx, the discendent of a Jewish family which had immigrated to the United States. He made his studies in painting at the Cooper Union and the City College of New York where he got his degree in 1956. Maidoff defines this period as the one of a Bronx emigrant in Manhattan. In 1956 and 1957 he went to Italy on a Fulbright grant and came back to do postgraduate studies at New York University in 1957-58. He held many exhibitions during this period and worked in graphic design and advertising. Many of his works have been bought by important museums (Riverside museum, Brandeis University Museum, New York University Museum) and by many famous personalities such as Robert Joffrey, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ravi Shankar, Mick Jagger, and many more.
By the end of the 60's he returned to Tuscany, moving there definitely in 1973. Jules Maidoff was forty years old then and he was leaving behind graphic design and commercial work to wholly dedicate himself to painting. In 1975 he is on of the founding members of the Studio Art centers International (SACI) in Florence where he shall work as a teacher and director. Up to today jules Maidoff has held more than 100 exhibitions worldwide.
