editWhen thinking about the adminship process, what are your thoughts and opinions about the following areas:
- Candidate selection (inviting someone to stand as a candidate)
- If I am understanding this correctly, I'm interpreting it as asking what qualities must you see in someone in order to ask him/her to go to RFA. I must firstly trust the person. By passing RFA, you are handed some very powerful tools that if use correctly, can assist you in building the Encyclopedia. Secondly, the individual must be able to reamin civil in even heated discussions. Since being here, I have done my best, but have found myself to lose my tounge ever now and then. You must be able to do your best in people skills because as an Admin, your going to have angry editors come at you demanding you block someone or badger you about an article of theirs you just deleted. By remaining cool, calm, and collected, your showing an example and it usually rubs off on someone. Lastly, the individual must show good judgement skills and be willing to spend a little bit of time before hitting that delete button or block button. Your first opinon on something may not always be right, and if you act on that first opinon everytime, your going to make a few mistakes. Standing back, reviewing the situation, and investigating a little bit can save some heartache and bad feelings.
- Administrator coaching (either formally or informally)
- In my opinion, I favor Admin coaching for one main reason > guidance. By going through the program, and experienced administrator can show a coachee what type of situations he/she will encounter in the future, and ask the coachee what he/she would do. By providing that answer, the admin coach can guide the coachee in the right direction, based on his/her answer. "That is a good answer and response because....." or "I wouldn't do that because .....". It provides insight to the participant as well because he/she is seeing what it would be like to be an Administrator, and really opens their eyes to see if that is where he/she wants to go with the "Wikipedia expierence".
- Nomination, co-nomination and self-nomination (introducing the candidate)
- No effect in my opinion. Some individuals view self-noms as prima facie evidence of power hunger. I disagree saying that it shows courage and motivation. Some individuals feel that they want to do more with Wikipeida, and fly under the radar out of everyones "scope". Does this mean that they should change their routine on Wikipeida to become flashy to others? No, it means that they do their thing and they feel that the tools can be of assistance to them.
- Advertising and canvassing
- Not that great of an idea, as it shows that your too eager to become an admin, however, it shows boldness in saying, "Hey, what do you think of me? Do you think I would do well here?" The best idea would probably be the RFA notice on your user page and talk page.
- Debate (Presenting questions to the candidate)
- Ask them!!!! Get to know the canidate better by asking questions, instead of seeing answers to the ordinary standard questions.
- Election (including providing reasons for support/oppose)
- Currently, this seems flawed, as there are those who seemingly cut and paste responses. I do my best to weigh each pro and con and provide my support or opposition based on that, instead of other items
- Withdrawal (the candidate withdrawing from the process)
- Each editor should have the right to withdraw from his/her own RFA for whatever reason.
- Declaration (the bureaucrat closing the application. Also includes WP:NOTNOW closes)
- I've seen some questionable closings in the past, but I feel that the individual who closes it had a good reason for doing so. Not a huge fan of NOTNOW, but that's just my opinion.
- Training (use of New Admin School, other post-election training)
- Case by case basis
- Recall (the Administrators Open to Recall process)
- Again, no real opinion. I, myself, will add myself to the AOR
When thinking about adminship in general, what are your thoughts and opinions about the following areas:
- How do you view the role of an administrator?
- I like the thought of No Big Deal but I feel that over time, it has become a big deal. Admins seem to have become more and more important when issues arrive and have the tools necessary to remedy the situation.
- What attributes do you feel an administrator should possess?
- Honesty, Trust, and be willing to help others, even if they don't really like the individual. Good judgements skills are also a necessity.
Finally, when thinking about Requests for Adminship:
- Have you ever voted in a request for Adminship? If so what was your experience?
- Yes, numerous times. I have had RFA's go according to my support and have also had them go the opposite way. I am only one editor, one voice.
- Have you ever stood as a candidate under the Request for Adminship process? If so what was your experience?
- Yes, two seperate times. The first time I was stupid and didn't know what I was doing. The second time I felt like I was ready, but now realize that I needed more expierence. I'll be back sometime though.
- Do you have any further thoughts or opinions on the Request for Adminship process?
- Definatley needs some changes, and I feel that they are on the way
