The Skimm refers to a news source that is geared towards readers who want a quick and easy to understand report of the local news. The Skimm was founded and created by two college graduates, Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin. The news source focuses on delivering popular news to its subscribers email every morning. The website has just hit over 1.5 million subscribers and continues to grow everyday. The everyday news report follows a similar pattern, quote of the day, a popular story, what people are watching, and other unique things the editors want to write each day. The article is delivered every morning right to its subscriber's mailboxes. The articles are focused on a direct and simple view on the news reports. The Skimm focuses on a short and easy to read version of the the news.
Background
editDanielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin were two college students from two different cities. They met when they were both studying abroad in Rome. After college they both happened to pursue careers as producers at NBC. Both the women self-describes themselves as "news nerds". They wanted to create an easy to read way to learn about the news and current events. They decided to quit their jobs and start The Skimm. The community around The Skimm quickly grew and now celebrities like Oprah, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Michelle Obama call themselves subscribers and supporters. The women have found themselves surronded by their self-made success. The company raised $6.29 million dollars in 2014. They were guests on Good Morning America and have done multiple interviews discussing their creation. The Skimm grows everyday with new supporters.
