Cafe Lafitte in Exile Cafe Lafitte in Exile is the oldest gay bar in New Orleans and one of the oldest continually operating gay bars in the United States. The bar was founded in 1933 at 941 Bourbon, current site of Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. In 1953, Cafe Lafitte in Exile opened its current location at 901 Bourbon.

Notable writers and artists have frequented Lafiite's throughout its history, including Tennessee Williams, Enrique Alferez, Truman Capote, and Gore Vidal.
