Lane Allen Baker[1] is an American electrochemist who is presently the Carl D. McAfee '90 Chair of Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Texas A&M University.[2] Baker conducts research in electrochemistry at the interface of biology and materials science. His research spans fundamental and applied electrochemistry and has made extensive use of nanoscale pipettes (nanopipettes) as mobile fluidic probes for applications in electrochemical imaging, chemical sensing and mass spectrometry.

Biography

edit

Early life

edit

Baker was born and raised on a family farm in rural Missouri. He graduated from Centralia R-VI High School in Centralia, MO.

Education

edit

Lane Baker[3] studied Chemistry as an undergraduate at Missouri State University, Springfield, MO and as a graduate student at Texas A&M University working with Richard M. Crooks. He completed postdoctoral studies with Lloyd J. Whitman in the Surface Nanoscience and Sensor Technology Section at the Naval Research Laboratory and with Charles R. Martin at the University of Florida. He was appointed Assistant Professor at Indiana University-Bloomington and promoted to Professor. Baker moved to the Department of Chemistry Texas A&M University. His research group is interested in electrochemistry broadly.

Notable Events, Accomplishments

edit

Baker has served as Chair for the Division of Analytical Chemistry of the American Chemical Society[4] and as president and a board member for the Society for Electroanalytical Chemistry (SEAC).[5] He was a facilitators at the inaugural Cottrell Scholars Collaborative - New Faculty Workshops (CSC-NFW)].

Served as an Associate Editor for RSC Advances (2015-2017) and has been or is presently a member of the editorial advisory board for Analytical Chemistry, Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, Analytical Methods, [ACS Sensors], and the Journal of the Electrochemical Society.
