James R. Martin II (born July 27, 1963) is an American civil engineer and educator who is chancellor of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, a public, historically black, land-grant research university in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Before taking over leadership at North Carolina A&T, Martin previously served as vice chancellor for STEM Research and Innovation at the University of Pittsburgh

Martin has garnered many national and state awards and honors, including the Norman Medal, the highest honor for published work in the field of civil engineering.

Personal life and education

Martin Grew up in Cross Keys, an agricultural community located in the Upstate region of South Carolina.

He would receive his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The Citadel in XXXX. He then studied at Virginia Tech, where he earned both his Masters of Science and Doctorate in the same field.
