In early 2006 I posted a plea on the national archives listserv for Archivists to get on wikipedia and help contribute to the entries related to our profession. Since I'm already "out" with my RL persona as a wikipedia contributor, I decided to let my name be attached to the edits and contributions I give to archival subject headings. Thus anyone trying to track back wikipedia contributions from our professional community will be able to see my ISP and name on what I've added. Hopefully this will encourage others to add more information or edit in wikipedia, and increase the amount of information about Archivists and Archival Science available to the public.
In short: Don't be afraid of wikipedia! It isn't the end of the world, and adding a sentence or two of content can only help more people understand the need for archivists.
Now I'm hooked. I'm trying to keep my edits confined to one or two subjects, but I'm still trying to focus my wiki efforts on Archival entries. I just get distracted sometimes. Besides, play helps me learn; without bothering to learn proper citation for other pages, I wouldn't be able to clean up the cites on my professional pages. At least, that's my excuse for now.
