NEW Party (Mongolian: ШИНЭ Нам, romanizedSHINE Nam. ШН) formerly Citizen's Coalition for Justice Party (Mongolian: Шударга Иргэдийн Нэгдсэн Эвсэл Нам, romanizedShudarga Irgediin Negdsen Evsel Nam, ШИНЭН) is a broad centre-right opposition political party in Mongolia. The party was founded in June 2019 amidst the 2018-2019 Mongolian protests and was officially registered as a legitimate party on the 12th of September by the Supreme Court of Mongolia.[1]

The NEW Party was founded as a big-tent political party uniting many social movements, non-governmental organizations and opposition forces against the MPP and DP dominated political establishment and institutionalized corruption.

History

edit

In 2004, A group of youth headed by Tsendsürengiin Gantulga organized a demonstration against the policies of the government, in which "Healthy Society, Civil Movement" non-governmental organization was founded. The spread of the movement caused the foundation of the Civil Movement Party in 2007.

After the declaring that the elections were a fraud in the 2008 riots, the activity of the party decreased due to supposed government suppression of political opposition parties. But in 2019, Citizen's Coalition for Justice Party was founded.[2]

In the 2020 election, The party formed the New Coalition with the Mongolian Republican Party, Truth and Right Party and Mongolian National Democratic Party.[3] Uniting a total of 11 political parties and 109 non-governmental organizations but ultimately failed to win any seats in the State Great Khural, winning only 5.35% of the total vote.

After their defeat, the party proclaimed the "New Revolution" as their party manifesto and replaced the party leader Jalbasürengiin Batzandan with Tsendsürengiin Gantulga.

Ahead of the 2024 election, The party changed its name to the NEW Party in January[4] and formed an electoral coalition with the Mongolian Traditional United Party named New United Coalition.[5]

Ideology

edit

The New Party is most fittingly described as a big-tent catch-all party that socially leans toward the right but economically leans toward the left. It mainly serves to act as a formiddable poular third-party option[6] for Mongolia, tackling corruption[7] and vowing equality and development for the nation.

The manifesto of the NEW Party, "New Revolution" is made up 18 revolutions. Among the 18 revolutions, 9 of them are economic and the other 9 are political revolutions. The revolutions include drafting a brand new constitution, changing the name of Mongolia to the "State of Great Mongolia" and naming the new consitution "Ikh Zasag". Party officials say that "Mongolia is racing with its socialist government against capitalist countries which is the equivelant of an old UAZ-469 racing with a japanese Land Cruiser and an american Hummer" and supposedly the manifesto is an instruction for treating Mongolia's socioeconomic woes without shedding blood or firing a bullet.[8]

The 5 major revolutions promised by the party are; the Revolution of Justice, Revolution of Wealth Equality, Industrial Revolution, Technological Revolution, Economic and Financial Revolution[9]
