User:Ehbowen/Iowa class battleship manning

This is a snapshot of the staffing and organization of the recommissioned USS Missouri (BB-63) in 1986. It is representative of other major US Navy combatant ships during the "600-ship Navy" era.

Please note: The crew counts in the divisions below have been taken from a "cruise book" prepared for the 1986 recommissioning and shakedown, not an official Navy source. Duplications and omissions are possible. The published manning figures for the recommissioned BB-61 class are 65 officers and 1445 enlisted personnel[1]. This snapshot of the recommissioning crew is short of the published figures; some of the crew members may not have appeared in the cruise book. However, it appears to be accurate within 5% of the actual complement.

Also note that officers and senior enlisted personnel are listed under the heading for their department; in actual day-to-day work they would be assigned to and oversee the operation of a division or a work center. Junior enlisted personnel shown under the heading for a major department are normally administrative aides working directly for the department head(s).
