Ion Funnel The ion funnel, also referred to an the 'electrodynamic ion funnel' is a device consisting of a stack of electrodes to which RF and generally DC voltages are applied so as to create electric fields that will collect, focus and transmit ions. The ion funnel has been most commonly used in conjunction with higher pressure ion sources and to provide for more sensitive mass spectrometry measurements, by providing more effiicient transmission of ions through regions with gas pressures that are intermediate between the source (often near atmospheric) and the vacuum of a mass spectrometer.
