Dr. K Radhakrishnan (1949- ) is India's Secretary of the department of space, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and Chairman of the Space Commission in India (2009- ).[1] He received his degree in electrical engineering in 1970 from Kerala University, his Masters of Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in 1976, and his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2000. From 1989-1997 he was the director of Remote Sensoring Service Centers under the National Natural Resources Management System while simultaneously holding the position of Director of Budget and Economic Analysis for ISRO (1987-1997). From 1997-2000 Radhakrishnan was the National Mission Director of Integrated Mission for sustainable Development and a Deputy Director of the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA). From the years 2000-2006 he was the founding Director of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) (2000-2005), the Project Director of Early Warning System for Tsunami and Storm Surges (2000-2005), the Vice Chairman of Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO (2001-2005), the founding Chairman of Indian Ocean Global Ocean Observing System (IOGOOS) (2001-2006), and the Regional Coordinator in the Indian Ocean for the International Argo Project (2001-2005). In 2006 Radhakrishnan became a member of the Indian delegation to the United Nations Committee on the peaceful use of outer space.[2] From 2005-2008 Radakrishnan was the director of the National Remote Sensing Agency and from 2007-2009 was the director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.[1]
