Resources
edit- Oxford music online (searches several music databases at once)
- World biographical index (collocates print sources of biographical information, like obituaries and program notes)
- Social networks and archival context (a.k.a. SNAC; brings together information from finding aids; very useful for entities which/who did not achieve household-name status)
- ArchiveGrid (not every finding aid is reported to SNAC, so this is a good cover-your-bases place to search as well)
- RISM (crowdsources database of musical sources; has been going since 1952 and has excellent references)
- Virtual international authority file (a.k.a. VIAF; authorized forms of names plus related information for everyone who’s ever been mentioned in a library record)
- The Crimson (Harvard’s student paper; will be very useful for finding information about Harvard composers and students)
