State Road 2 is the designation which was assigned to the original routing of the Lincoln Highway within Indiana. The route ran through Merrillville, La Porte, South Bend, Elkhart, and Fort Wayne. The route included most of what is now US 33, in addition to pieces of the modern US 30 and US 20. The section between Valparaiso and Rolling Prairie is still known as SR 2, one of a few segments of roadway to still have its original 1917 designation.

State Road 4 was one of the original "main market" highways established in 1917, beginning in Evansville and ending at the Ohio state line east of Lawrenceberg. The original 1917 routing consisted of what is now SR 62 from Evansville to Dale, US 231 from Dale to Haysville, SR 56 from Haysville to Paoli, SR 37 from Paoli to Bedford, and US 50 from Bedford to the Ohio state line.
The routing above was changed in 1923 due to a reorganization of the state's highways, leading to the SR 4 designation being removed from the Evansville to Bedford portion in favor of several different designations. Simultaneously, a portion of roadway between Sullivan and Bloomfield was also assigned the SR 4 designation. The 1926 renumbering occurred before these discontinuous sections could be linked. The portion of SR 4 west of Bedford was largely absorbed into the modern SR 54.

State Road 5 ran from Vincennes to Mitchell under its initial 1917 configuration. The portion from Vincennes to Shoals largely followed the historic Buffalo Trace. This portion is now US 50/US 150, while the remaining portion from Shoals to Mitchell is now part of US 50 and SR 60.
In 1923, the routing of SR 5 was changed to remove the Shoals to Mitchell portion and extend the route westward to New Albany. This routing also followed the historic Buffalo Trace and is now US 150.
