"All of us have to learn how to invent our lives, make them up, imagine them. We need to be taught these skills; we need guides to show us how. If we don’t, our lives get made up for us by other people.” -- Ursula K. Le Guin, The Wave of the Mind (2004)
About me
I'm Emily Carrasco-Acosta. I have always been passionate about accessible knowledge, and continuously endeavored towards closing gaps in knowledge, particularly from equity-seeking groups, as this background is personal to my upbringing. I value community work, and being a part of preserving local
knowledge, and finding tangible solutions in bridging barriers between the public's knowledge and the research world. Although I've been a Wikipedian since September 2022, I am an active participant in research, and hope to bring my skills to both my professional and personal work.
My work
I am a recent graduate from McMaster University, where I have had an extensive career in research and academia. Topics of interest have included pedagogical work in partnerships in equity seeking groups and faculty members (presented at ISSOTL for 2018 and 2021), as well as creating ArcGIS Web Maps on Community Engaged Research (CER) for the Department of Social Sciences at McMaster University, where I connected faculty members research projects with the public for continuous engagement. Continuing my research journey, I am now the current Wikipedian in Residence at Milton Public Library, hoping to connect with the community and contribute knowledge gaps on the Town of Milton through the public library resources.
