Paul Kohls (born April 15, 1974) is a Republican politician and a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 34A which covers central and western Carver County and part of Scott County. Paul was first elected to the Minnesota House in 2002 and was re-elected in 2004, 2006 and 2008. In late June Kohls announced that he would be seeking the Republican endorsement for the 2010 gubernatorial race.[1]
Political Career
editKohls is currently the lead Republican in the House Public Safety Finance Division. He is also a member of the Tax committee, the Finance committee and the Public Safety and Civil Justice committee. As a legislator, Kohls has focused on improving Minnesota’s tax and regulatory environment and garnered statewide attention with his spending freeze proposal in December 2008.[2]
Private Sector Experience
editOutside of the legislature, Kohls has worked as an attorney at the former Minneapolis law firm, Rider Bennett and as a law clerk at the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Currently, Kohls works as an attorney and senior manager at Allianz Life Insurance Company, however he took a leave of absence to focus on his campaign for Governor.[3]
Education and Family
editKohls attended college at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. In college he was active in College Republicans and was a member of the football team his first year. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1996 with a BA in Political Science. Kohls continued his education attending the University of Minnesota Law School and received his JD Cume Laude in 1999.[4]
Kohls is married to Kelly (Yetzer) and has two children, Stanley and Caroline .
