Hello!
My name is Winnie Shyam and I am the Head of Reference and the English Librarian at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. I moved to Canada from India in 1979, relocated to Connecticut in 1982, and have been here since then. I have three children, each born in three different countries, and four adorable grandchildren!
I have been working at the Hilton C. Library, SCSU, for 27 years and really enjoy my job although there have been many challenging times due to budget cuts. Planning and moving into a new addition, and more recently, the lovely renovated new library was one of the highlights of my job. I love working with students and seeing the thrill on their faces when they find relevant sources for their papers. I have always wanted to know more about editing Wikipedia articles and this course provides the perfect opportunity for me to learn the ins and outs of editing. Although I am not a total novice to this process as I have edited one article and have authored one, there were several hiccups along the way which left me frustrated and so I am here to hone my skills and become a more confident editor. I also look forward to learning how to find suitable articles to edit and how to upload images.
I will adhere to Wikipedia guidelines while editing or expanding articles, making every effort to display civil and appropriate behavior. I will not attempt to make edits if I am not confident how to do it. If I inadvertently make errors, I hope Wikipedia editors will feel free to correct me exercising the same sense of civility they would expect of others.
This is an account I created for a Wikipedia course that I am currently enrolled in. I have another account I created a couple of years ago as I was working on an article. The username for that account is Wshyam. I will continue to use that account and abandon this username once the course is over.
