Karen Lafferty (born DD, MM, 1948) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, music educator, and Christian missionary. She is perhaps best known as the composer of the hymn "Seek Ye First" (based on Matt. 6:33) which became a standard in Christian praise music, and is found in most major hymnals today.
Biography
editEarly Career
editLafferty was born and raised in Alamogordo, New Mexico and began performing as a teenager. In 1966 she graduated from Eastern New Mexico University having earned a Bachelor of Music Education, minoring in Oboe. Working as an entertainer, she moved to California and began her Christian ministry in 1970 in the nightclubs where she performed.
