Ian Cutler was born in Hackney, London in 1953 and began playing the violin at the age of 7. Trained classically initially and going on to The Guildhall School of Music in London as a Junior Exhibitioner in his teens, he decided to pursue a Folk career instead.
His first "break" was in the "Wicker Man" filmed in 1972 with the band Magnet and he appears in the film on numerous occasions as the young man playing the violin.
He then joined the "Bully Wee Band" in 1975 and remained with them until the eventual split in 1983.
Numerous projects followed after this , the most notable is his collaboration with Doug Hudson in forming the "Hot Rats" in 1991 with whom he still plays.
He has since become involved in the "Feast of Fiddles" from the outset in 1993 with Peter Knight, Phil Beer and Chris Leslie to name but a few and tours once a year to various venues in the UK.
2004 saw the "Bully Wee Band" reformed with Fergus Feely, Jim Yardley and Colin Reece and they tour also once yearly in January.
Recently he has joined up with Dave Cousins (Strawbs) and they also perform as a duo and have released "Boy in the Sailor Suit" with the larger "Blue Angel Orchestra" and "Duochrome" recorded live on an American tour in 2008.
