editGood work. Few comments:
- "bolshevik revolution" (1917) officially named "Great October Socialist Revolution"
- soviet state (USSR) was created in 1922...
- soviet part of WWII is (officially) known as "great patriotic war of the soviet people"
- great patriotic war was in 1941..1945, while revolution in 1917, hence the section order is misleading
--jno 09:06, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
RSFSR is an acronym (or abbreviation?) for one of 15 republics of the USSR. It was for Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (now just Russian Federation or even mere Russia). --jno 15:28, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- I thought it was the Russian Soviet Federate Socialist Republic, but that's only a little point, there seem to be quite a few interpretations of what the letters stand for. It's an acronym I think. Russia gained its states back after the Treaty of Versailles, didn't it, which nulled the Treaty of Brest Litovsk? In which case, I'm now clearer on that, so thanks.
- EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME 15:31, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
RSFSR, to be precious, is Russian: Российская Советская Федеративная Социалистическая Республика, РСФСР. International treaties of that times didn't affect the state much. There was internal treaty of 1922 to form the USSR from some somehow "independant" states (including the RSFSR). The right for self-definition (eng??) was declared. Moreover, the Finland has used this right to peacefully separate from the new country. (btw, Finland is a very interesting neibour of USSR - there was the "winter war" of 1940 (I still cannot realize - was it victorious for the USSR or not), in the WW2 Finland started as an enemy of the USSR, but ended as an ally and still friendly, Finnish blue swastika appeared long before the German one, but was compromized by the later, Finnish army was (and somehow is) an assorted collection of numerous vehicles from East and West, etc) --jno 08:29, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
P.S. See this picture (now it's the building of The State Duma (parlament of RF)) and pay attantion to the State Emblem on it: there are only 7 "stripes" instead of common 15. It's just because the number of republics in the USSR was the subject of changes. --jno 08:35, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, that's a lot clearer now. I'll take a look again at the article sometime soon for you. EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME 13:48, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello, EvocativeIntrigue. This is a quick message to remind you that all 5 finalists for the Esperanza User Page Award have been chosen. You now need to judge those 5 pages, awarding each one 1-10 points for attractiveness, usefulness, interesting-ness and general niceness. Refer to the Scores section at the project page if you are unsure of how to score.
Once you have scored the 5 pages, email Petros471 using the specified format. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced. Thanks. May the Force be with you! Shreshth91(review me!) 08:31, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeltsin missing text
editNo, I posted my question at the help desk after doing as much as I could. As I said, the text is still sitting there in the edit box, but now I can't get it to appear in the preview, nor on the actual page. It looks like I've butchered the article! Any suggestions? —Maiya 15:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks anyway for your help, but an admin at the help desk solved it and fixed it. —Maiya 16:00, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
I was just on RC patrol and saw it, it was obvious vandalism so I just reverted it. Vandalism is vandalism, the page it's on doesn't matter. I don't endorse the page and am no way connected to it, but the page seems inappropriate for wikipedia and probably doesn't meet WP:USER.--Andeh 16:12, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

RE:Your edits to Andy Warhol
editWhy did you revert my edit on this article? I was reverting vandalism to the article, and your edit actually appears to have added more vandalism. EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 15:21, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, I did straight afterwards revert it further and remove the vandalism. I have recently been approved for using vandalproof, and so I am trying to get to grips with it, and in this case, with the rollback I made a mistake which I then had to go onto internet explorer to rectify. I hope that this isn't a major problem, and I will try and be more less clumsy with vandalproof! Benjaminstewart05:-) 15:25, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
All sorted amicably, appears we're too efficient for our own good!
Re: Help desk query
editThanks for the reply EvocativeIntrigue. I tried placing the code for the lower template beneath the top template's code. That worked OK at 800 x 600 screen size but for anything higher the boxes appear alongside each other. Wikipedia:Infobox_templates#Interaction_between_multiple_templates says that a combination of infobox templates may appear on the page as a single infobox. Do you know how that can be done or do you have any other suggestions? Cheers. - Gimboid13 18:04, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Your signature
editSorry if you feel I'm intruding but since there's a purge of signatures going on currently, I thought I might try and help you. Your signature uses a lot of wasteful code. I've made it output exactly the same, but with two thirds of the code. See here for details. Thanks and I hope you change it to my redesign. :). No problem. And with anon users, personally I would only welcome them if they were making good edits. If they were vandalism, the "welcome" is kind of included in {{test}}. With registered users, I have been known to welcome many at a time without them having any edits, and if I see a non-new user without a welcome, I will normally go along and welcome them. Except, of course, they are vandalising, in which case I will either give them a stern telling off (welcome included), or block them, depending on the rate of vandalism etc ;) — FireFox 13:44, 03 July '06

Welcoming anon spammers
editHi colleague, this is regarding [1]. We usually use {{anon}} to invite IP users to register. Also, it would be good to check their contributions first: do we really want to invite spammers and vandals? Cheers. ←Humus sapiens ну? 02:25, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Usually {{anon}} is used, yes, but I like to give a more informal, friendly welcome. The few edits I checked through looked on the surface looked fine to me (since adding the template the user seems to have made more vandal-like and spam-like edits), and a quick lookup suggested that the IP may be used by more than one person, and I assumed good faith: in my mind, an IP user should be treated no differently from a registered user- some of our more established members started on the rocky side of editing before converting from the "dark side"!
- Surely a warm welcome is more of incentive to add constructively than a "stop it" message with little explanation? I do agree that some users on Wikipedia are malicious and will probably never add anything meaningful, but remaining civil doesn't cost anything, and without anyone to annoy, they may go tired of adding spam anyway (it's a long shot, but hey!).
- I can see your point, but, as I said, I made efforts to check the user's edits (although I somehow missed their edits to Creampie) and IP address and believe all users deserve the same warm Wikipedia welcome, registered or not. I know your message was posted in good faith, and so was my welcome message, so we have something in common!
- By the way, pretty off-topic, have you considered joining Esperanza? We're always looking for new members who are as active and as you seem to be, and it provides a nice break from editing if it all gets too stressful.
- Regards,
- EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 12:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Navbar tool (Partial conversation)
edit(Sorry, it looks like you've moved my comment from before, but I can't find to where!)
- D'oh, lost the comment somewhere, thought I'd archived it...
- I really like the bar, but usually use Opera on Wikipedia: if I can work out a way to get your bar running in Opera, I'll be sure to tell you: the code works fine (like you said, the :hover element works in everything but IE!), nice job.
- Anyway, thanks for the reminder and for a great new tool!

- Not too bad in HTML and average in CSS, so may have a go at styling it in my userpage colours! :EVOCATIVEINTRIGUE TALKTOME | EMAILME | IMPROVEME 20:58, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
One possibility would be to use a parent page with frames like this:
<HTML> <frameset cols="160, *" border="1"> <frame name="nav" src="navbar.html" noresize> <frame name="main"> </frameset> </HTML>
and then edit in target="_main" into the links on the navbar. The limitation of this would be that you'd have to load this page several times, or only have the bar in your first tab.
I don't know anything about Opera, so that's my only suggestion.
I'm glad you like it, though! Happy Wiki'ing! - Che Nuevara: Join the Revolution 22:06, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Mr. EvocativeIntrigue
editHow long have you been editing and what do you mean by "mostly male"?
Just because you are British doesn't mean that you are any less male.
I believe in spelling things the "British way" so don't feel hard pressed to spell them the"American way".
And how do I add a pic. to my page?
Also check out this small video++++

edit- Qho,
- I can't actually remembering there not being a Wikipedia (so I've probably been editing for too long!) but I registered in Spring this year.
- The "well, almost" comment about my gender is a (very weak) attempt at humour, and since it was one of the first edits I made I've kept it. I prefer British spelling (obviously- the word "math" shouldn't exist!), but agree that articles on American topics should be written using American spelling, and am happy to flick between them when required.
- To add a picture to your page (or, indeed, most Wikipedia pages), try this:
- ...which should produce:
- Thanks for the video, it was intriguing.

Hi, I am contacting you as you commented in the deletion discussion for these lists. You may not have realised that recently some users have placed conditions for inclusion on these lists that many users find unreasonable. Currently, no common sense is permitted in judging whether a person should be on the list. Even if a person is sourced as having both parents born in X Country, or if they say "my family is X", or "I have X blood" we still can't list them. Many users disagree with Jack'O Lantern and other users who have adopted this position. For more discussion related to this and proof many people disagree see Talk:List of Estonian Americans, Talk:List of Greek-Americans, Talk:List of Polish-Americans, Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Is_deductive_reasoning_original_research.3F, Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#ethnicity.2C_hyphenation.2C_and_membership, Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Deductive_inferences_in_OR. Please also see the continuing discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lists of Irish-Americans. Thanks Arniep 10:35, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
If you don't wish to read through all that please state your support or opposition for my proposal here Wikipedia:WikiProject Ethnic groups/Rules for lists of X-Americans. Thanks! Arniep 11:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
