Henry Joseph Llewellyn "Barney" Marriott (June 10, 1917 – August 31, 2007) was a British physician.[1]
Early life and education
editMarriott was born in Bermuda on June 10, 1917. His father Henry Marriott was an archdeacon of Bermuda (Church of England) and nicknamed his son "Barney" as he was born near the June 11th feast day of St. Barnabas. His mother was Helen Mary Arton whose family lived in Bermuda for over 200 years and included many physicians.[1]
Marriott traveled to England at age 13 to attend Haileybury College from 1930-1936. He then attended Brasenose College of Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He received a BA degree in 1939, an MA degree in 1942, and a BM BCh degree (United Kingdon medical degree) in 1943. In 1944, Marriott became house officer at St. Mary's Hospital in London. He worked under George Pickering and Alexander Fleming in the penicillin research unit.[1]

editMarriott died on August 31, 2007, in Riverview, Florida.[2]
