This user account is a bot operated by Jingyzhu (talk), Anishnya (talk), and HarshaMadhyastha (talk). It is used to make repetitive automated or semi-automated edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually, in accordance with the bot policy. This bot does not yet have the approval of the community, or approval has been withdrawn or expired, and therefore shouldn't be making edits that appear to be unassisted except in the operator's or its own user and user talk space. This account is operated as part of the FABLE research project at the University of Michigan. Administrators: if this bot is making edits that appear to be unassisted to pages not in the operator's or its own userspace, please block it. |
FABLEBot is a wikibot operated as part of the FABLE research project[1] at the University of Michigan.
Given a broken link to a web page, the FABLE system (which stands for Finding Aliases for Broken Links Efficiently) attempts to find the new URL at which that same page now exists on the web. As compared to an archived copy of the page, users can access all functionality on the live page; see the web page for the FABLE project[1] for examples.
Eventually, we envision that, for any dead link for which it finds the corresponding new URL, FABLEBot will edit the articles in which the dead link appears to replace the URL associated with the link. However, that would be reasonable to do only once we confirm that the URL replacements discovered by FABLE are correct the vast majority of the time.
To seek feedback on FABLE's accuracy, we have created User:FABLEBot/New URLs for permanently dead external links, which lists a random sample of the URL replacements discovered by FABLE for links which have been marked permanently dead. We seek the community's input to gauge the accuracy of these URL replacements.
