The Silk Road is a covert dark internet website where drugs are openly bought and sold. The site, accessible only via anonymizing software, has been the subject of discussion by US legislators and occasional comment by the media. It was raised during the markup hearing for SOPA as an example of the evolution of illicit websites to distributed media and computer systems that bypass DNS,[1] and hence by design are not blockable by DNS filtering such as proposed in SOPA.
