American Vampires

In the series, the american vampires are a new species of vampires. They diferentiate from the classic vampires because they don't have any weakness to the sunlight or wood. This is because, as Skinner Sweet explains, "..when the blood hits someone new, from somewhere new, it makes something new". While their weaknessess aren't fully known, it is known that they are weak during new moon, when there's no moon on the sky, and are weak to gold. Contrary to the normal vampires, they can see their reflections on a mirror, but their are distorted.

Skinner Sweet

Skinner Sweet was born in 1850, and was a well known outlaw in the Wild West. In 1880, he was arrested in Sidewinder by deputy Camillo. While he was being sent to hanging, the train where he was being transported was blown by Ronnie Jeeks and the Blackmouth Twins, who worked for Sweet. during the escape, they shot the banker Percy, until it was revealed that he was a vampire, who then proceeded attacked Sweet. During the fight, Percy's blood was spilled into Sweet's eye and, while he was apparently dead, he was transformed into a vampire. Sweet was then buried, but fearing that he could have been transformed and wanting revenge, Percy, along with the rest of the european vampires, built a dam where Sidewinder once existed, covering Sweet into 66 feet of water.

In the storyline Devil in the Sand, he settles in Las Vegas using the name Mr. Smoke, being the owner of a brothel called The Frontier.

Pearl Jones

Pearl Jones is an aspiring actress living in Los Angeles in 1925. During that times, she was an extra on a movie where she met actor Chase Hamilton, which then invited her to director's B.D. Bloch's party. Seeing it as a chance to land a role in one of his movies, Pearl goes to the party, where she is lead by Hamilton to a dark room where Bloch and other gentlemen are reunited. They then reveal themselves as vampires and attack Pearl, who later is left for dead at a pit where corpses of other young girls (possibly victims of Bloch) are thrown. She was found wandering the desert still alive by her friend Hattie, where she is taken to the hospital, but the doctors say that there is no way that she will live for long. At night, Skinner Sweet, who had warned her not to go to the party, visits her and drops a drop of blood into her mouth, turning her into a vampire.

The Book Family

Jim Book

A Pinkerton detective who assisted with the capture of Skinner Sweet. When Sweet was ressurrected as a vampire, Jim chased and fought him, while in the process he was infected with Sweet's blood. Before turning into a vampire, he had sex with Camillo's daughter, and was killed by her before he was fully transformed into a vampire.

Felicia Book

Jim and Abilena's daughter, she works for a mysterious organization called The Vassals of the Morning Star. As a child, her mother said that she must avenge her father by killing Sweet. She may have some vampirical powers as a result of her father's infected blood, but it has yet to be seen. A Vampire tried to bite her once, but rejected her blood, stating that she's different.
