Ken Winokur is a 67 year old media producer, musician, writer, photographer, and sound engineer. I have previously been director and musician with Alloy Orchestra. I am currently director of Psychedelic Cinema Orchestra.
Over the years I have written articles for The Boston Globe, Boston Phoenix, Art New England, Afterimage and numerous other publications.
I have contributed photographs to hundreds of publications including Spin, Harvard Magazine, Sheraton Magazine, Inc., American Movie Classics and many others. I shot commercial photographs for Polaroid, Sheraton Hotels, Charlestown Bank and many others.
I created soundtracks for many classic silent films (Metropolis, Man with a Movie Camera, Buster Keaton short films) with Alloy Orchestra and have had them published along with the films by Kino International, Criterion, Flicker Alley and others. I have also done commercial soundtracks for MTV, VHI, Met Life and others. I created slide shows for Baybank and First Night Boston.
I have run a film restoration and distribution business called Box 5 and have published restorations of Son of the Sheik, Phantom of the Opera (1929), and The Eagle.
I am married to filmmaker, professor and media producer Jane Gillooly and am helping her get information out about one her most important film, Leona's Sister Gerry (created in 1995 and broadcast nationwide on PBS). I also plan to help create a Wiki page about her important and extensive career, which includes numerous awards and grants including a Guggenheim award. I am very aware of my bias and am striving to create informative and neutral additions to Wikipedia of her important career that has been, so far, overlooked by Wikipedia.
