Brice Stanley Bowman (June 10, 1951- ) born in Kansas City, Missouri.

Brice S. Bowman's family moved back and forth between Missouri and Georgia before finally settling in northern California in 1958. Born, Brice Stanley Jordan, in the late 1950s his last name was changed to Bowman, when his mother remarried. It was clear even as early as elementary school that Brice Bowman had talent in Art. He spent a huge amount of time drawing; and his drawings were sophisticated well beyond his years. In addition to continually drawing and painting he spent a lot of time examining art history books trying to understand how such great master painters as Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and Jacques-Louis David painted their paintings. During junior high school he declined to enroll in art classes feeling the assignments were boring. Brice Bowman preferred to return home from school each day to study on his own. In his last year of high school he did however following the advice of his school counselor take a drawing class providing him with his first formal art instruction. Immediately his art teacher recognized that Brice Bowman had already acquired drawing skills beyond the drawing class he was enrolled in. Consequently he was given advanced assignments separate from the other students.

After Brice Bowman graduated from Napa Senior High School in 1969 and given that at this time youth were required to register for the draft, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Navy he enrolled in Napa Community College in the Spring of 1973. He received his A.A. degree in Art in 1976. Subsequent to Napa College he attended San Francisco State University where he graduated with his B. A. degree in Painting and Drawing in 1979. Brice Bowman next attended Sacramento State University where graduated from in 1983 with his M.A. degree in Painting and Drawing.

After graduate school he opened a studio in Benicia, California where he painted long days deep into the night truly coming into his own as a painter. During this time he painted some very ambitious and large scale paintings that were widely exhibited in the San Francisco Bay Area.

From his work in Benicia his recognition grew as a painter to be taken seriously in the bay area with such exhibitions at the Berkeley Art Center titled Bay Area Modernism: Success or Failure in 1986, contrasting his work with Jay Defeo. (From this exhibition Jay Defeo and Brice Bowman became very close friends until her untimely passing.) About this time Brice Bowman closed his studio in Benicia and opened a studio in Berkeley at 2571 Shattuck Avenue as well as a studio in San Francisco at Post and Grand. This was a very important period in his painting; receiving greater and greater recognition his paintings were widely exhibited throughout the United States.

In 1995 he began to explore other medias such as Digital Art.

This period was generally from about 1995 through early 1998.

1998 was a very pivotal year for Brice Bowman. In the Summer of 1998 Brice Bowman moved to Los Angeles where opened a studio at 120 S. Vignes street.

Another pivotal event occurred in the Fall of 1998 Brice Bowman visited Europe for the first time. This had a huge impact on his life as an artist. This experience of seeing european art in person greatly inspired him. And being in such cities as Arles, Aix-en-Provence, and Nice expanded his already deep rooted desires to make important art. From this time on Brice Bowman became significantly interested in being in Europe and exhibiting his art in Europe; which he did. He has spent significant periods of time in Marseille, France where he has made a lot of experimental films. To date his work has been exhibited or screened such cities as Bucharest, Milan, Rome, Nice, Venice, Marseille, Cologne, Dublin, Copenhagen, Florence, St. Petersburg, and Valencia, New York, Jakarta, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, Reno, Buffalo as well as many others.

Since Brice Bowman's first film in 1998 Transitional Construction he has made 42 films, as of 2016:
