Philip Demers, also nicknamed 'The Walrus Whisperer', is a professional Marine Mammal Trainer born with an innate ability to communicate with animals. He is best known for his unique relationship with a captive pacific walrus named Smooshi.

Personal Life

Demers was born in Welland, Ontario, and currently resides in Chippawa, home town of famed director James Cameron. He continues to follow his passion for excitement and love of animals, caring for them as a Marine Mammal Trainer at Marineland. In his free time, Philip enjoys relaxing on his dock, dominating at pick-up hockey, and competing in exciting games of Racquetball. These events and many more help Philip become the physical anomaly that he is, having proven his skills on national television on shows such as Wipeout Canada. [1]

Career

Demers’ animal training career began in 2000 at Marineland of Canada where he is currently employed. In 2007, Philip became the focus of mass media attention regarding his unique relationship with a captive pacific walrus named Smooshi. [2] Their noted relationship garnered the attention of such television programs as CBC’s The National, Inside Edition and Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Philip was also a contestant of Wipeout Canada, taking home the 50 000$ grand prize as the first ever Wipeout Canada Champion. [3]
