Piñata Day Article Preview
editThe following is the holiday created by Emerson. He is currently working on amassing enough notability to allow the holiday to have it's own article published on Wikipedia without it being deleted.
Piñata Day is a budding parodic holiday created in 2005 by Emerson Guitar, of Canada. It occurs on November 7th. A date picked for the availability of discount candy due to the recently preceding Halloween.
Description
editPiñata Day is a party during which pre-purchased piñata(s) are filled with discount candy provided by all who wish to partake. The piñata(s) is then strung up and beaten with a stick until the candy inside spills out. Each person gets one swing, and it cycles through everyone that wants to try before second swings are allowed. There is no blind folding and there is no spinning of the person. This is targeted toward a more adult audience who all think that their might will break the piñata. The first swing is awarded to either the person who contributed the most candy or the person who is the most boastful and assumes that they can break it in one swing.
Origin
editWhile rummaging around in his basement, he found an old unused piñata. This was a few weeks before Halloween and an idea started to form in his head on how to use this party favor. Piñata Day was born. Emerson had wanted to create his own day, such as the beloved International Talk Like A Pirate Day, which he had be celebrating for a few years. He figured that his day must take place shortly after Halloween as to take advantage of the copious amounts of cheap candy available. An arbitrary date was set, November 6th. This however conflicted with the days in which his fellow classmates could partake, so the celebration of Piñata Day was bumped to the nearest week day. The first official Piñata Day took place on Monday November 7th, 2005.
Celebrations
editThe first Piñata Day took place on Monday November 7th, 2005 at Sir Allan Mac Nab Secondary School, in Hamilton, Ontario. It was near the end of the day in a philosophy class where the first piñata was filled and beaten. Many classmates took part and many more received some candy.
The second annual Piñata Day took place in the basement 24-hour lounge of the University Place student residence at Wilfrid Laurier University. Ads had been placed on several doors throughout the apartment building and this drew some people, but most participants were from the floor on which Emerson lived. This was the first year at a university, the true demographic of Piñata Day. As planned, people placed their candy in the piñata and people attempted to rupture it by beating it with a stick, which on this occasion happed to be a toilet plunger handle which was purchased for this very reason. This fact was known only to one person as to prevent association of Piñata Day with toilets.
The third annual Piñata Day, although partially planned, did not occur due to lack of a suitable location and general workload on the creator.
