BIOGRAPHY – June 1, 2014
Since the mid-eighties, Fletch has contributed to the telecommunications industry from various perspectives. As a field technician, installer, and Systems Engineer he has built and managed some of the largest private voice networks globally. His active participation in the telecommunications industry spans the evolution from TDM to VoIP and now SIP and WebRTC.
Throughout his career, his efforts have been recognized by his peers, receiving the inaugural INNUA Partnership Award for his customer advocacy, the Avaya Lab Cups for his work on Public Safety Standards, and most recently in 2013, Fletch was honored by the NG9-1-1 Institute where their Industry/Technology Professional Private Sector Award was bestowed by Congress and the Institute in Washington, DC, recognizing his work and career achievements in Public Safety.
As Avaya’s Chief Architect for Worldwide Public Safety Solutions, Fletch ensures that the roadmap and strategy of Avaya products and services meet the requirements for Next Generation emergency communications in both the Enterprise and Government sectors here and abroad. He is a popular speaker at many international industry and user group events, and is recognized for his weekly Podcasts and CONNECTED Blogs covering emerging technology and important industry news events.
In addition to his role inside the company, Fletcher represents Avaya as an active member in NENA, EENA and APCO, having been the key author of the NENA Model Legislation for MLTS/PBX, and an active contributor on NENA NG9-1-1 transition standards. He was appointed to the APCO Standards Development Committee in 2014, and assumed the role of Vice-Chair of the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) NG112 Technical Committee. In June, NENA recognized his efforts and appointed him to the NENA Institute Board, where he will work to define the standards for their Emergency Number Professional certification. In recent years, Fletcher has provided guidance on advisory committees that include the FCC Emergency Access Advisory Committee, and the DHS NSTAC Technical Subcommittee for FirstNet.
In 2013 Fletcher launched the Avaya Podcast Network covering industry technology, news and events with several series focused on Public Safety as well as Enterprise Network topics. APN content is updated weekly, and is available at http://Avaya.com/APN.
