VF-126 (Fighter Squadron One Two Six) Originally designated Navy Attack Squadron 126 (VA-126) the squadron was established on April 6, 1956. Based at Naval Air Station Miramar near San Diego, CA, the squadron initially provided fleet aviators with instrument training in the TF-9 Cougar. In 1967 began receiving A-4 Skyhawk aircraft. It then expanded its roll in addition to pilot instrument training to providing adversary aircraft and aggressor training to naval fleet squadrons. Later with the establishment of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), VF-126 A-4 aircraft were used by Topgun instructors as adversaries.
