Career
editAntinori started his career as a consultant with a leading French consulting group. 1986 he became Air France representative for southern Germany in Munich before was asked to serve as a personal assistant of a board member at Air France's headquarters in Paris. In October 1994 he was appointed general manager of Air France for Germany in Frankfurt am Main. In August 1997 Antinori left Air France to become Lufthansa's general manager for southern Europe in Paris. In the year 2000 Antinori was appointed Executive Vice President Sales of Lufthansa, 2003 his area of responsibilities was expanded to include sales, marketing and product.[2] In his 11 year term in office Antinori pushed ahead strategic realignments in a variety of fields. His most prominent reform was the abolition of commission payments for travel agencies which led to a revolution in the German travel business with many travel agencies disappearing from the market on the one hand, and the rise of new digital distribution platforms on the other hand.[3]
At the end of 2010 Thierry Antinori was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa subsidary Austrian Airlines in Vienna. He was supposed to take up office in April 2011 but terminated his employment relationship with the Lufthansa Group in March 2011.[4] In spring 2011 numerous newspaper reports suggested Antinori would become a board member of Germany's second largest airline Air Berlin.[5] These reports proved to be unfounded rumours when Thierry Antinori was appointed Executive Vice President Passenger Sales Worldwide of Emirates in Dubai in autumn 2011.[6][7][8]
