Article Evaluation
editI am a very large reader and because of that I enjoy watching the movie of the book I had just read. The most recent book I have read is What's Eating Gilbert Grape. It was a fantastic book, and the movie was almost better. I visited the What's Eating Gilbert Grape article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: the dead links in the article, the neutrality of the article, and the under-represented viewpoints.
Dead Links
editI noticed that throughout the article, there were many dead links on words that I wanted to know more about. It was very disappointing given the fact that this movie is very complex and carries many heavy themes. Some of the words that were linked didn't need to, and it created a lot of confusion for me when reading through this article. Fortunately, it was a very well written article, just not linked correctly.
Neutrality
editThankfully, this article was neutral when it came to how the movie was written and casted. It didn't pick sides on how good or bad it was, if anything, it praised the actors and actresses in it. This was good for me, as I didn't have to pick a side and the article left it up to me to decide what I thought.
Under-represented Viewpoints
editI did notice however that when there were bad reviews, the article tended to skip over them, and focus on the better reviews. This was surprising to me, because I did want to learn more about what people thought was wrong with the movie. This would have helped me make a more firm decision on it and if I would recommend it to a friend. I wish the article had gone into more depth about the not so great reviews, so I could have seen the movie from both sides.
Summary
editOver all, I give this page a "good" review. It was an interesting page to evaluate, given the fact that that its just a movie. Nonetheless, the article could use some updating with the links and I liked the neutrality of it. The main piece of advice I would give to whoever wrote and edited this page, is to give more information, not only on the movie but on the reviews as well.
bio
editAbout me
editHi! I'm a big reader, that lives in the Pacific Northwest. I love reading young adult fiction, but some non-fiction interests me. I love reading biographies of important historical figures like Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, or Martin Luther King Jr. Reading biographies helps to learn how successful people handled some of their problems in a peaceful way[1]. Music is also another huge thing that inspires me. I listen to a wide range of R&B, but when I'm doing homework I listen to lots of classical. I also have two cats that I love dearly, and spend a lot of my time with.
My Wikipedia Activities
editI enjoy going through different Wikipedia articles about people I look up to, like the people listed above. Using this website can also help me to understand things about the people and the world around me. I hope to edit articles in order to remove false information, and to make them the as educational as possible.
