Dr Tracy Dawes-Gromadzki (1972-) is an Australian ecologist most well known for her work with termites. She was able to do research on termites through the Tropical Ecosystem Research Centre from the CSIRO Division of Sustainable Ecosystems. Not only did she research them but also created a system to sample the termites.[1]
Dr Tracy was born in 1972 in Adelaide, South Australia. She is the eldest of the two girls that her parents gave birth to. Her mother was a school teacher while her father was a construction worker. Dra Tracy enjoyed family holiday trips that included camping and visiting family members in Zimbabwe and South Africa. [2]
She enjoyed going to school because of the content and because she liked to socialize. She characterizes herself as a perfectionist who still tries her best on everything so that she can succeed. Dr Tracy was involved in sports in her high school. [3]
Looking how animals and plants respond in the environment is what she prefers to do and considers herself an ecologist above anything. Her research critically analyzed the importance of termites in both the tropical savannas and also in the southern parts of Australia. Compared to other animals in the bottom of the food chain, termites do not die off in the winter time and thus are extremely important to the food chain. She claims there are more than 300 species of termites in Australia. [4]
Her work revolves around researching the importance of termites and other creatures in keep the soil healthy by recycling nutrients. Thus her goal in research is learning how to replenish soil in Australia and make Australia viable besides increasing knowledge about these creatures.[5]
