The Biografilm Festival is an annual film festival, held since 2005, in Bologna, Italy.[1][2][3] Journalist and film producer Andrea Romeo was its founder, and directed the festival for its first fifteen years. He announced he would be succeeded by Leena Pasanen at the 2021 festival.[4]
The festival's offerings are confined to biographical films, and is often characterized as an "International Celebration of Lives".[1][2][3] Offerings include both documentaries, and feature films, like Judy the fictional recreation of a period of the life of Judy Garland, which had its Italian premiere at the 2020 Festival.[5]
Werner Herzog attended the 2019 festival to receive a career honour.[2] Diane Weyermann, of Participant Media, known for a long career of directing, producing and promoting documentary films, received the Making it Real Award.[1]

Romeo has plenty of experience in the field. Besides founding and heading Bologna's Biografilm fest, billed as a celebration of human lives and a gateway into Italy for some of the world's top docs, he also distributes docs and feature films in Italy, via his I Wonder Pictures shingle that since 2015 has locally handled titles such as 'Searching For Sugar Man' and 'Citizenfour,' among others. Romeo is also active in exhibition and has previously dipped his fingers in production.
