editThe Department of Defense stopped transferring newly apprehended captives, taken in Afghanistan, to it controversial Guantanamo Bay detention camps, in Cuba, following the United States Supreme Court's 2004 ruling in Rasul v. Bush. In 2007 and 2008 the USA has transferred a small number of captives apprehended in Somali including: Abdullahi Sudi Arale.[2][3][4][5] US forces are reported to have been engaging in clandestine military activity in Somalia for at least the last five years.
Mohamed Ali Isse
editPaul Salopek, writing in the Chicago Tribune in an article entitled "U.S. appears to be losing its secret war in Somalia"', reported on an interview with Mohamed Ali Isse.[1] According to Salopek the guards and other inmates at the Somali facility where Isse is imprisoned call him "The Man with the American Thing in His Leg." American military surgeons inserted a surgical pin in his leg when it was shattered in combat with clandestine American forces.
