Janet Maureen Aoife Ne Devlin (born 12 November 1994)[1] is an Irish singer-songwriter from Gortin, County Tyrone. She started singing from the age of seven, performed at local singing competitions and first came to the public's attention when she auditioned for the eighth series of The X Factor.[2] Devlin performed on the X Factor single, Wishing Upon A Star[3] and has recorded some of her own original songs in the Steelworks Studios with Eliot Kennedy and his team.[4] Her latest Gig took place at the East of England Festival in Peterborough on 7 July 2012.[5] Devlin is currently writing and recording for an upcoming Album which she hopes to have ready later in the year.[6] She counts artists like City and Colour, Devendra Banhart and Verdana as influences in her music and also notes the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as a favourite Band.

2011: The X Factor

In 2011, Devlin auditioned for the eighth series of The X Factor[7] which was screened on the 20 August 2011 where she performed Elton John's Your Song.[2] Her Audition was successful as all four Judges: Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Gary Barlow put her through to the next round. She performed Coldplay's "Fix You" in week 1 of the live shows and was put through to the next round by her Mentor, Kelly Rowland, as there was no public vote in the first week. Devlin topped the public vote more than any other Act as she received most public votes for the first four weeks of voting (Weeks 2,3,4 & 5)[8][9] and reached Week 8 before landing in the bottom 2 with Misha B. Despite polling more public votes than Misha B, she was voted off by judges Contostavlos and Walsh with Rowland refusing to vote. Devlin's final song in the sing off was Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars". During the live shows, Courtney Love tweeted Simon Cowell to offer to give Devlin one of Nirvana's Tracks for the show.[10] This did not however transpire.

Devlin was one of nine X Factor Artists to perform on the X Factor Live Tour 2012, which performed in some major cities throughout the UK & Ireland.[12] During the tour she performed Fix You and Sweet Child Of Mine. Shortly beforehand she was interviewed by IN Magazine [13] She also performed a Jim Sheridan arrangement of Your Song on RTE Radio One show the John Murray show.[14]

On 11 May 2012, Devlin received an Honorary Award at a civil reception in Omagh, County Tyrone for her achievements on the X Factor series 8.[15]

[16]=== 2012-present: Debut studio album === Soon after being eliminated from X Factor, Devlin performed some Gigs at various venues throughout the UK. One of these being the renowned G-A-Y venue on Saturday, 3 December 2011.[17][failed verification]. Devlin performed at T-Fest in Grays, Essex on 2 June 2012.[18][19]

It has been reported that Devlin has received at least 3 offers of a recording contract, but as of yet there has been no confirmation of a deal signed.[20] Within hours of leaving the show Devlin had been offered a recording contract by RKA Records, a record company partly owned by Dragons' Den star and entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne.[21]

On 28 May 2012, Devlin entered the Steelworks Studios in Sheffield to record some demos with Eliot Kennedy.[22] and his team. She has written some tracks with singer/songwriter Newton Faulkner, Joe Janiak, Phillipa Hannah, Jack Savoretti, Helen Boulding, Joshua Radin, Ethan Ash and Mike Dignam. Devlin performed one of her own tracks, "Walk Away" at the Half-Time Show in the All Ireland final on 23rd September in front of over 83,000 capacity crowd.[23] [24] . She performed her own new song "Walk Away" and "Fix You" at the X Factor's Childline Ball on October 18th at The Savoy Hotel in London[25] [26] and at the "Match for Michaela" event in Belfast's Casement Park on the 3rd November[27]

Devlin announced her headline UK Tour on 29th October 2012 starting in Birmingham on the 26th March playing ten cities finishing in Bournemouth on the 7th April.[28] [29] . She also announced the Irish leg of her Headline Tour which includes Cork, Galway, Dublin and Belfast. [30] . Owing to extended recording commitments, Devlin's Headline United Kingdom and Ireland Tour was re-scheduled to 12th September 2013; starting in the O2 Academy2 in Bournemouth and ending in Belfast's Oh Yeah Centre on 5th October 2013.

To coincide with her Tour announcements, Devlin announced that she had signed up with direct to fan website Pledgemusic [31] in order to fund her debut Album which she hopes to have ready for sometime in March 2013. [32] . Devlin reached the target on Pledgemusic to fund her debut album on 31st December 2012 @ 18:58pm. [33] The successful pledgemusic campaign came to a close on 27th May 2013 with over 3,000 pledges and 152% of the target reached. On the 4th February 2013, Devlin went into the Foundry, Steelworks studio in Sheffield to start recording her debut album with Eliot Kennedy and his team. Devlin so far has recorded at least 10 tracks for her soon to be released debut album. As part of her Pledgemusic campaign, Devlin performed two Pledger-only concerts at The Greystones in Sheffield and The Troubadour in London on May 12th and 13th respectively. She also will perform a set on the main stage at the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth on Saturday, 24th August 2013. Devlin performedin front of his holiness the Dalai Lama on 18th April 2013 as part of the "Children in Crossfire" charity in Derry.[34] [35]

Prior to her appearance on X Factor, Devlin performed a number of covers which she uploaded to her official channel on YouTube.[36] Her homemade YouTube recordings have at last count over 10 million hits on YouTube.[37]
