Books Greg thinks you should read:
editI've probably read at least 60 books since this beginning of this year alone (2006). To many people that's an astonishingly large number, but to those others, my fellow readers, they'll probably think that I'm falling behind slightly. Truth is that I'm trying to not read so fast anymore. I used to suck stories out of books like a little kid on the business end of a straw in a chocolate shake, but I often feel that I'm not letting the true joy of the novel sink in. There's no rush anyway. I still have a few years left to finish up those Pratchett Novels.
This list is neither all inclusive or complete. The only book on it that I've read recently is Rainbows End. I'll add to it as think about it more.
- The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
- I first discovered this book in the late eighties. I've read it at least five times since then. Besides being a great and absorbing story, the characters are absolutely fantastic. Its the kind of book that when you finish the last page you immiedately go back to the first and start again.
- Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge
- The concept of the Singularity as it pertains to Sci Fi has never intrigued me much, but Mr. Vinge's tale of has definitely brought me closer to the event horizon of it then anything I've ever read before.
- Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman
- How does a genius daydream? What's he thinking about while the biscuits back in the oven?
- Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
- My favorite so far from Mr. Robbins. What does a Frenchman in a whale mask, a man with bees buzzing around his head, a waitress, and a beet have in common?
- Evolution by Stephen Baxter
- An absolutely compelling and thought provoking collection of short stories that follow the evolution of humans from proto-mammal rodents to the furthest reaches of time. All of the stories are gems, but more then a few are down right amazing.
Wikipedia Groups
editI'm really starting to warm up to this whole Wikipedia thing, and therefore has decided to lend my hand where and when I can.
