Amristar's Mapworks is a SaaS based geographic information system (GIS) for working with maps and geographic information. It is used for:
- A spatial data repository for uploaded personal spatial data.
- Creating and publishing maps using global data made available from OpenStreetMap, Regional data from Custodial participants, or shared user data;
- Embedding the designed maps with selected tools into other web applications;
- Providing direct access to the map/data for feature level manipulation and analysis by map and application users.
Mapworks includes a data, maps and applications marketplace to allow the products generated by data custodians, map designers and applications developers to make a return on their investment through a chain of value adding that compete to deliver consumer benefit for price, data currency, data quality and function. Currently available free data includes OpenStreetMap, TomTom and public data from the West Australian Shared Land Information Platform. Mapworks supports a product license schedule to enable the sharing of information under interagency or private agreement.
Technology
editMapworks core technology is derived from Amristar's iDelve Maps Engine[1] (for streamed delivery of compressed geographical features). This system avoids network latency and server load chatter [2] by providing access to the geographical feature at the web client. This provides entry level simple map creation, along with the ability to scale significantly across many users within an enterprise.
The technology differs from Web Map Tile Service and Web Map Service which delivers imagery and relies upon REST or SOAP to interact with the map. The access to vector features at the client can allow function to be developed locally. This method ameliorates perceptible degradation to performance through reducing client requests to the server and avoiding network latency of requests and results.
Mapworks provides access to an Application Programming Interface (API) to allow the vectors to be accessed by external programs thus facilitating multicloud benefits. This API is made available at the client through Javascript, and to the Server through REST services for more complex functions.
