Xavier Bellés (Barcelona, 1952) is a Catalan biologist, Professor of Research of the Spanish National Research Council. He graduated from the University of Barcelona in Biology (1971) and obtained the Ph.D.(1984) at the same university. His research focuses in Entomology and particularly, on the evolution of insect metamorphosis.
From 2008 to 2017 he was the funding director of the Institute of Evolutionary Biology [1]. Between 2004 and 2008 he was the coordinator the Natural Resources Are of the Spanish National Research Council. He is a member of the Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona[2] and the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.
He has published 15 books and more than 254 scientific articles.
