New Rule

edit

There are a few misguided Wikipedia editors who believe the following things:

  • Any editor or small group of editors can make a new rule prohibiting a certain behavior, place it in an essay or on some other page that has no more status than an essay, and everyone is required to obey that new rule.
  • Unless an existing Wikipedia policy or guideline specifically allows the behavior, it is forbidden.
  • If it contains the word "Guidelines" in the title, then it is an official guideline.

New rule: for those Wikipedia editors who believe all three of the the above and for those editors only, using the letter "E" is forbidden in all comments on any talk page or noticeboard. This includes use of the lowercase "e".

This new rule shall remain in effect until there is a Wikipedia policy or guideline that specifically allows those who believe the above to use the letter "E".

Seriously, though, per Wikipedia:Consensus#Levels of consensus any so-called "guideline" or "policy" that has not been formally approved by the community through the policy and guideline proposal process has no more status than an essay.
